Country Research

One of the most important aspects of MUN is accurately representing your country's position. Successful delegates conduct thorough research on their country's history, economics, international relations, and politics.

Best Delegate has a great page for country research. It includes links to the CIA World Factbook, UN speeches, permanent missions to the UN, and BBC Country profiles. This is where you should begin your country research.

There is a new website that really is a game-changer for MUN students. It is called DelegatePal and should help immensely in conducting various types of research. It allows you to store your research in an E-Binder with other essential documents, and best of all, it is completely FREE! You can read about it on the Best Delegate website.

The UNA-USA has a good collection of questions and tips for researching your country.

The Michigan State Model UN page also has a variety of sites, including regional organizations that your country may be a member of.

You can also set up a Google News alert to personalize your news feed and get updates on your country. This also works well for your topic research!

What do you do if you have been assigned a "limbo country"--one that there is very little information on? This website provides advice on how to research/prepare for "limbo countries".
